Mrs.Thompson has taught science at Summerville High School for three years. She decided to become a teacher after she couldn’t find any geology-related jobs in North Carolina, where she used to live. Before coming to Summerville, Mrs. Thompson taught Earth Science for four years in North Carolina.

“Honestly, I got my degree in geology and couldn’t find any geology jobs in North Carolina, where I was living, and had always kind of thought about the idea of teaching and said why not try it” Mrs. Thompson said.

Mrs. Thompson decided to teach science because of her love for geology. Throughout her time at SHS she has taught Biology Honors, Earth Science CP and Honors, and Physical Science CP and currently teaches Earth Science.

Mrs.Thompson thinks it is important to teach students about science because everything people do somehow leads back to science.

“No matter where they go and what they do or what they want to do, part of science is going to show up” she explained.

As most students have probably figured out, every teacher has a different way of teaching and a different atmosphere in their classrooms. Mrs. Thompson decided to have a Harry Potter- inspired classroom in order to be able to award students for grades and good behavior.

“I wanted to have a competition for students for positive behavior and awarding them for grades and for things like that, and when I thought of all the fandoms that I love, Harry Potter seemed best because of the houses and the house points naturally possesses itself “ Mrs. Thompson explained.

Although there are many great things about Summerville High School, Mrs.Thompson says that some of her favorite parts about teaching here are that everyone in friendly and helpful.

“Everyone is really friendly and nice and helpful” Mrs.Thompson said.

Many students enjoy Mrs.Thompson’s class because of the creative atmosphere and the fun activities she plans in her lessons.

“She had a lot of fun games, and I learned by doing stuff, so it worked out well” said Sarah Lybrand, a sophomore who had Mrs.Thompson’s class last year.
