It always seems like Mrs. Tanton’s room is packed during ILT. Many members of this crowd are current and former students of Mrs. Tanton. Her students love her for her kindness and easy-to-understand teaching that keeps them coming back to visit.

This is Mrs. Tanton’s second year teaching at SHS, teaching Spanish 2 and 3 classes to hundreds of students.

“My favorite part of teaching is when I have students who are struggling and they come to tutoring, get help from me, and are able to succeed,” Mrs. Tanton said.

A great class involves good relationships between all the students and having exciting activities, which Mrs. Tanton exhibits.

“Activities shouldn’t be just reading off a piece of paper, they should be fun and engaging,” Tanton claimed

Mrs. Tanton found her love for teaching from a grant program at her college, which involved teaching.

“I saw how great of an investment it was for relationships and being able to help our world in ways you can’t in other professions,” Tanton said.

Tanton decided to teach Spanish because it “reaches culture.”

“It’s different from any other classes, it has communication benefits for the real world, including visiting different countries, speaking to Spanish-speaking people here. I used to work at Barnes & Noble and a person came in who spoke Spanish and nearly no English, and I was able to help him,” Tanton recalled.

Her goal for this year?

“To form really good relationships with my students and fixing things that didn’t go as well as I wanted to my first year,” Tanton reported.

“She’s really funny and actually cares about you,” former student Abby Rauch, junior, said about Mrs. Tanton. “She definitely keeps you awake.”

“She’s really good at explaining things that people might not understand,” Kevin Riley, sophomore, added.

Mrs. Tanton loves teaching, and doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon.
