Signing Day for athletes took place at Summerville High School on February 6th, 2019. There were eight signees coming from Summerville, five of which were senior football players, two came from track and one coming from tennis. Lizzie Naval and Nevaeh Posey from track signed to Erskine to Columbia International College, respectively. Tennis player Gwen Rast signed to Newberry College. From the football team, Cole Collins signed to Coastal Carolina, Cole Phillips to Wingate, Colby Taylor to Newberry, and Andre Banks to Newberry as well.

“Signing day is the biggest day of my life. I’ve worked all my life for this moment, and it has all paid off,” said Newberry commit Andre Banks.

Most of the athletes are looking forward to seeing how much the work they have put in will pay off, and to being in the atmosphere of the next level.

“To me, signing day means that all the hard work I’ve done pays off. All the early morning  practices and late nights after games pay off. The hours of film and listening to coach scream in your ear ‘one more rep’ pays off. To me, it’s finally recognition for the work I’ve put into this sport,” stated Colby Taylor.

The signees , after hearing praise from their coaches and athletic director, officially signed to their college or university, and ultimately planned their future. Signing Day closes the deal on where student athletes will spend their next four years of life.

“The coaches influenced me the most, and Summerville helped me tremendously in becoming the man that I am today,” said Banks

Not only have the student athletes in the class of 2019 at Summerville excelled in athletics, but they also excelled in academics.

“Not only am I excited to proceed my athletics at Wingate, I am ready to get more career-ready,” said Cole Philips.

The biggest part in deciding where to spend your next four years of school is where you feel the most lead to and where is the best fit for you.

“I picked Newberry because it felt the right place for me,” said Colby Taylor, “The atmosphere, the coaches, the players and everything in between, and I have been working since rec league football to get to this moment and then follow up with playing on Sundays”

The senior athletes have all learned valuable lessons and worked up to this moment and we are very proud of them.
