On October 19, 2018 the new “Halloween” movie was released and seemed heavily anticipated. Half of the Summerville High School varsity cheer squad was selected to be in the movie. The cheerleaders enjoyed every part about it especially dancing, cheering and meeting new people.

The cheerleaders were featured four different times: once in a car doing cheers, once doing a dance in the background, and twice in a school dance.

“We danced around and took selfies with the main characters. The cheerleaders also preformed a long dance that was filmed and focused on for a long time,” said senior Kaelyn Hansen.

Coaches Ashley Jacobs and Mercedes Hannigan helped coordinate the filming with the team and the producers.

“The cheerleaders filmed many scenes,” said Coach Hannigan, “Sometimes they were stunting, tumbling, dancing, and chanting. I think the cheerleaders help give the film a high school dynamic. It also wasn’t hard for the girls to act as a team since it was a reality for them! Overall, they had a great time filming and are happy to be presented with the opportunity!”

Lots of memories were made during the filming of this movie, this is something that the team will surely not soon forget.

“The experience was amazing. Being able to see a movie come to life and all that goes into the process was a one in a lifetime experience. Especially with a huge movie like Halloween,” said Kaelyn Hansen.

After the cheerleaders were done filming the movie they knew they would see themselves in the movie/trailer, which was of course a surreal feeling.

Summerville was not the only school to submit for cheerleader roles.

“When I first found out, I was shocked and didn’t believe it was going to happen! It was a great feeling to know that out of all the submissions, Summerville was chosen. It helped reassure that their hard work does not go unnoticed,” said Coach Hannigan.

The movie has created a great impact on the girls.

“It was exciting, thrilling, and amazing best experience ever,” said Madison McCall, junior cheerleader.
