Hitting Texas as a category four, Hurricane Harvey devastated the Lone Star State as it made landfall on Aug. 25, 2017. The damage costs upward of 190 billion dollars and has left 30,000 people temporarily without a home.

Summerville, which has had its fair share of hurricanes, understands how hard it is to rebuild. Summerville High School leadership classes, under Mrs. Teal Miller, have decided to donate a portion of the money made from the Sept. 25-29 Spirit Week to the Red Cross and Hurricane Harvey victims.

Mrs. Miller and Leadership make charitable donations based on spirit week each year.

“We try to help out as many people as we can. This time we’re doing it for Harvey,” stated Mrs. Miller.

“We’ve been hit before and they helped out us out, so we need to help them out,” said Arione Johnson, junior.

Students can purchase tickets on Monday Sept. 25 for 2 dollars for a class warfare game. Tickets are also available for Family Feud on Sept. 26 for 3 dollars. The ticket proceeds from these days will go to hurricane relief.

School clubs that have raised money for Hurricane Harvey relief plan to present a check at halftime of the Homecoming game on Oct. 20.
