Directed by Felix Gary Gray, The Fate of the Furious was released on April 14, 2017. Starring Vin Diesel, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, and Tyrese Gibson, the iconic team takes on a hacker named Cipher who is trying to take control of a Russian submarine filled with nuclear bombs.

While Dom and Letty are on their honeymoon in Havana, Cipher, a worldwide hacker, approaches Dom and blackmails him into working for her while turning him against his family. Cipher sends Dom on many different missions, with no detail of how they will connect in the end.

Later in the film, it is revealed that Dom had a son with Elena, his ex girlfriend, and Cipher had taken them both hostage in order to force Dom to do her dirty work. Throughout the film, it looks as if Dom is just doing as he is told but at the end he betrays Cipher, takes his son, and joins his family in stopping the Russian submarine.

The movie is the 8th installment of the Fast and Furious series. This movie generated the most money on opening weekend, 98.8 million in the US alone and 529 million worldwide. The 8th movie made more money in the first weekend than any other movie on opening weekend.

I think the movie was a huge success, the cast and crew did an incredible job with stunting and keeping the watchers entertained. While it is an action packed movie, there is an amazing understory of family, friendship, and relationships. The movie also keeps with the reoccurring theme of family before anything else as is in the other 7 movies.

While the movie came out less than a week ago, there was already talk of a 9th film. Nothing official has been released yet; however, Diesel hinted at a both a 9th and 10th movie. Don’t get too excited though, “Fast Nine” isn’t set to premier until sometime in 2019 and “Fast 10” isn’t set to premiere until 2021.
